Casa Oriental, an establishment that traces its roots back to 1910, has not merely persevered; it has flourished through transformation. Originally situated at Campo dos Mártires da Pátria, No. 111/112, in close proximity to the iconic Torre dos Clérigos, this venerable emporium embarked on its journey trading in the treasures of Eastern and African colonies. The allure of coffee, chocolate, and teas, which graced its façade from the early 19th century, still captivates visitors, transporting them to the colonial era.

Post-World War II, Casa Oriental underwent a remarkable evolution, diversifying its offerings to encompass the rich tapestry of Portuguese regional delicacies. Pastries, cured meats, smoked meats, fruits, vegetables, cheeses, olives, wines, and liqueurs found their place in this establishment, where history and flavor harmoniously converged. In 1974, following the winds of change, the store found its steward in José Maria Gama, who made codfish the emblematic centerpiece of the establishment.

The significance of Casa Oriental's historical space did not go unnoticed. Acknowledging its pivotal role in the evolution of Portuguese gastronomy, COMUR – Fábrica das Conservas da Murtosa, renowned for its "Valor do Tempo®" collection, entrusted Casa Oriental with exclusive rights for the entire city of Porto.

This collaboration unites two esteemed brands on a shared mission—to give back to the Portuguese Sardines that have contributed so much to the nation. Casa Oriental has gracefully transformed into a Fine Grocery, blending elements of its antique charm with the allure of the new, alluring the curiosity of today's influx of visitors to Porto.
